Ontario's Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a male was shot by police in Brampton Friday evening.

According to Peel police, officers were conducting an investigation on a vehicle that drove into a driveway on Velvet Grass Lane shortly before 7 p.m.

An officer fired his weapon when the vehicle attempted to flee the scene.

The male driver of the vehicle sustained an upper body gunshot wound and was transported to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The SIU has assigned five investigators and two forensic investigators to examine the incident.
